Separation Liberation

10/15/2018

In May of 2018 a policy was passed in the U.S that had been pending in court the past year that produced more of a riot to America rather a solution.  With the new president (Trump), America was promised that a wall would be built in order to keep ¨rapists¨ (Mexicans) out and that Mexico would pay all expenses. Although with that idea eliminated Trump sure did get his wish when he passed a new plan named the Zero Tolerance Policy. Thus stating that when a family is caught crossing the border illegally ¨an adult is referred for prosecution, a child traveling with the adult is turned over to the U.S. Health and Human Services Department. That agency is responsible for placing the child with a sponsor as the child's immigration case is resolved.¨(Valverde).

Before Trump's election when a family was caught coming into the U.S. illegally they kept the family together and processed them together and then sent them back together as soon as possible. Never were they sent to camps as seen above away from their parents and other siblings. Even though Trump knew of this policy, the minute it gained spotlight on national news Trump was quick to blame it on the Democratic saying he had nothing to do with it. It makes me think though, how does a policy that just has no logic or morals behind its consequences slip right through his hands? "If you are smuggling a child, then we will prosecute you and that child will be separated from you as required by law," , "If you don't like that, then don't smuggle children over our border." Says Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

I believe that the Zero Tolerance Policy was a disaster the minute it came out of the mouth of the person who came up with such and idea, and for those who were around and encouraged such a beastly act, well you can shove all your other opinions were the sun doesn't shine. What you could have stopped caused almost 700 hundred children to be separated from their parents, the people who are supposed to keep them safe , and thrown into a cage and numbered as if they were some inmate who committed a vicious crime. I have never been one to go on rants but the fact that the country I live in seems to be losing all its morals is an epidemic that's starting to lose my respect. I love my country, I am  proud to live in my country and be privileged, but how am I supposed to keep that positive attitude going when all I see is unethical behavior coming from people who are supposed to be leading me, leading us.
